ABOUT MICHAELMichael S. Hammond is the 31-year-old Mayor of the Village of Rensselaer Falls, NY; a position he has been honored to hold since 2015. He had previously served as a Village Trustee there since 2012. He is a registered member of the Conservative Party but has been cross-endorsed by the Democratic Party given his moderate record and willingness to work across the aisle to do what he feels is right for his close-knit community of 337 residents.
A sixth generation New Yorker, Mike made his candidacy for the District 3 seat in the St. Lawrence County Legislature official on Independence Day morning from the steps of the Historical Society in Rensselaer Falls. When elected, Mike hopes that he can help lead a successful dialogue that involves every member of the Board as they discuss critical issues such as the county’s opioid epidemic, improving departmental fiscal practices and pursuing new opportunities to improve the county’s economic climate. After teaching at Norwood-Norfolk Central School for two years, Mike is now employed as a 6th Grade Teacher at Ogdensburg City School District where his wife, Kira, is also a Kindergarten Teacher. They have two children, Lincoln (age 5) and Alison (age 3). Several members of his family still live in the Rensselaer Falls area. WHY MICHAEL IS RUNNINGMike feels that his diverse background and mix of public, private and educational experience will enable him to help foster a more congenial team atmosphere than what exists in the legislative chamber now. He hopes to make his district and the county more welcoming to businesses, investors and tourists and he feels that our economic future is tied to commercializing advancements in technology at the local level.
Mike wants to make St. Lawrence County a leader in New York State again given its potential and available natural and human resources. He is looking forward to earning your trust and respect as he works with you to win the District 3 seat in the St. Lawrence County Legislature. |
